Tarot Abstracto

Diana Campanella

The 'Tarot Abstracto' is a departure from the typical renderings of the naturalistic, realistic, surrealistic and fantasy imagery that dominate the realm of tarot. It is a fresh and painterly interpretation meant to appeal to those in need of the loose and abstract. It offers a freedom not seen in the tight drawings of the conventional tarot and deviates from the predictability of continuity of style.

The artist captures a fresh and spontaneous mix of the recognizable imagery from the Rider-Waite deck and personal artistic expression. Any reference to the familiar imagery was to avoid the struggle of relearning tarot and their meanings, however, the departure from Rider-Waite holds a feel of autonomy and free expression. Colorful and sassy, this tarot evokes a sense of play while inviting the idea that life is not to be taken all that seriously.

Diana uses script as artistic elements revealing meanings within the cards themselves.  Some words are legible enough to read, some are not, but they all play a role in the compositions.

The pip cards are more closely related to the Rider-Waite deck, but the major arcana and court cards were given freedom from the standard.

In this version of Tarot Abstracto, the original paintings have been altered via computer to modify colors and artistic elements, offering more vibrancy, and sometimes giving them an almost acidic flavor for those who crave more brilliance.

Diana created her own version of the tarot to satisfy her own artistic sensibilities and wishes to share her delight.
